Full-time courses

One of the many advantages of studying English at the University of Manchester is the possibility of a coherent programme designed to take students from A2 level of the Common European Framework for Languages right through to the levels required for undergraduate/postgraduate study/research. Other pathways provide for progression through an externally validated examination framework.

We offer the year-round Gateway programme for students wishing to improve their English in order to study in an English speaking country or for personal and professional development. For students already holding a conditional offer for the University of Manchester and who only need to make a small improvement in their English language in order to meet the entry requirements of their course we offer pre-sessional courses. For students wishing to come for a period of three weeks or more during summer, combining language training with study of British culture we also offer the International Summer School.

If you are wishing to train to teach English to speakers of other languages, the Trinity CertTESOL is an internationally recognised qualification.

We provide a warm, professional learning environment with well-qualified, experienced teaching staff and a dedicated Student Welfare Officer. During the academic year students have membership of the International Society and can participate in the society's trips and activities. Over the summer we provide a full social programme, including Saturday excursions and weekday activities co-ordinated by our three dedicated Social Organisers. Accommodation is available on a homestay (October-  June) or residential (July - September) basis.
