Pre-sessional
English for Academic Purposes
Students who are coming to study an academic programme at the University of Manchester may be interested in our Pre-sessional English language courses.
These courses are designed to help you improve your academic English skills and to prepare you for study on your degree programme. Areas of study on all of our courses include academic reading, writing, speaking and listening. If you study for 5 weeks or longer you will also have the opportunity to explore additional areas of study such as oral presentation, written project, language development and summary and paraphrasing skills.
The length of course you will study depends on the English level required by your academic department and your current level of English. Courses are available for 3 weeks (for students who have satisfied all entry conditions for the academic course), 5 weeks, 10 weeks and 20 weeks. For students who do not have a conditional offer at the University of Manchester or who need a longer period of study may study on the Gateway programme.
