Role within the university:
I am responsible for running the University Language Centre's academic support and LEAP programmes. The former involves organising a wide variety of courses and workshops in English for Academic Purposes for international students and for home students. I also oversee the organisation and delivery of the ULC's institution-wide language programme (LEAP) which offers courses in up to 20 different languages to students, staff and members of the public.
I represent the institution-wide language programmes (IWLP) sector for the University Council of Modern Languages (UCML).
Before coming to Manchester I taught English in universities and schools in Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and Spain. My interests include exploring ways to promote independent language learning and mapping the phraseology used in written academic English. Current projects include investigating the short-term development of oral proficiency in different learning contexts and developing an online phraseological resource for academic writers.
