Academic support programmes for registered students
The University Language Centre provides a range of English language support services for registered students, visiting fellows and international staff members whose first language is not English:
- Online Diagnostic test for registered international students
- timetabled in-sessional courses for international students, covering areas such as academic writing, academic speaking, pronunciation and grammar
- academic writing tutorial service for students wishing to discuss and improve particular aspects of their academic writing style
- programme-specific courses and workshops covering language and skills areas relevant to students pursuing a certain programme of study
- credit-rated programmes: Academic literacy for Pharmacy and Foundation Year: Communication skills
- training in effective writing for postgraduate students, organised through Faculty training offices
- training in writing for University staff (operated through the University's Staff Training and Development Unit)
- materials development, including online resources such as the Academic English and Skills Development Material and the Academic Phrasebank, to help students improve their academic English
